What is it that you want?

GrettaJuly 22, 2020

Do you know what it is you want most? Would you be able to list 50 things that you want?

You might be thinking, one of two things:

1. Oh yeah, that's easy. I definitely know of 50 things that I want!

2. But why does it matter? Or, I have no clue. I don't even know where to start.

If you're in the first camp, I say to you: give it a try. Right now. Write down 50 things that you want. Big things, little conveniences, vacations, cars, homes. Don't limit yourself. Is there anything on the list that you already have? If not, go back through and write your list to include things you already have that you very much want.

Now, pick the thing you want the very most and answer:

Why?

How do you feel when you imagine this goal/outcome?

Do you truly believe you can achieve it?

A lot of us think that going after and achieving goals will make us happier. They don't. Setting and achieving goals causes us to grow and evolve and be more of who we are. Happiness and every other emotion always comes from our thoughts. If you're looking for happiness in some future place when everything is aligned - you're always going to be looking. Always. Happiness  never comes from things that are outside of us.

The second reason to set goals and go after our wants is to give our lives direction. It's the best way to predict what happens. If you don't give the brain something to focus on, it's just going to keep repeating the same life over and over. Now, if that's what you want - great! But, if you're here reading this, I doubt that's the life you're after 🙂

Now, to the second camp, I say: your wants are the road map to your biggest dreams. Getting clear on your true wants and desires is the first step. After you do this, your mind will offer you lots of reasons why you can't, why it's impossible, and why it's crazy. Good, your brain is working perfectly. Your brain just offered you all of the areas you need to work on in order to get to your dreams.

If you don't know what you want, I'm going to guess you have a history of downplaying your wants, putting them aside in favor of other's wants and needs, ignoring them, stuffing them down. I will gently remind you that your wants matter. They matter tremendously. Your wants make you, you. If you're not in touch with them, all is not lost. You CAN discover them. I have lots of great questions to ask you to help you rediscover them. I promise.

If you know what you want and you're ready to get there now, or if you have no clue what it is that you want and you need help with rediscovery - I can help with both! Schedule a free consultation!
